“This guy’s story could be a book,” Hufnal remembers thinking, as he continued to pore over records and newspaper clippings of the legendary law enforcer. Haverford Township’s very first police chief, Ed Hallissey had his incredible career come to an unfortunate and abrupt end in April 1921, when he was arrested, drunk and in full uniform, after driving onto a Philadelphia sidewalk and then threatening the life of a Philadelphia police officer. Unexpectedly, he unearthed a shocking news tidbit that made him stop in his tracks. HAVERFORD- Detective Albert “Matt” Hufnal recognizes a good story when he sees one.
